1. Examination

The City University is not merely an education body. It is rather basically a “nursery to create good citizens”. It therefore emphasizes the diffusion of scientific, technical and professional knowledge on the one hand, and building up of character in youth by making religion and ethics an integral part of education on the other. Examination is an assessment of the knowledge, skill and aptitude of a student.

To provide quality educations the City University follows the Integrated Education System

One of the essential characteristics of an integrated education system is the continuous evaluation process. In this process a student is evaluated in a multidimensional manner, such as,

  • His punctuality in attending the classes
  • His ability to perform class tests and assignments in time, and
  • His scores in the Mid-Term and Final Examination.

Apart from these, there is a Viva-Voce (Oral Examination) Board at City University for all undergraduate programs. Viva-Voce helps a graduate to gain confidence in their own ability, and provides a final wake up call to take learning seriously. It is also valuable to take early preparation for professional oral examinations and is useful to enhance employment interview skills.

1.1 Mid-Term and Term Final Examination

In each semester there are Mid-Term and Term Final Examinations, which will be conducted by the concerned Examination Committee(s) of the departments. After Mid-term examination, conducting 8 (Eight) weeks’ classes and 1 (one) week preparatory period Final Examination is to be held. The evaluation system will be as follow:

The performance of a student will be continually evaluated during the SEMESTER through mid-term exam, class tests / quizzes, assignments, presentations, and term final exam. The final grade and its numeral score on a particular course earned by a student will be based on the total marks obtained in the course. The course teacher will allocate 100 marks for a particular course in the following categories:

The Grade Point Average (GPA) is computed in the following manner:

(GP in C1 x CH) + (GP in C1 x CH) + ………. +(GP in Cn x CH)

GPA = ————————————————————————————-

CH of C1 + CH of C2 +………….+ CH of Cn

GP = Grade point earned

CH = Credit hours of the course attempted

C1,2 …n= Courses

(GPA of all courses completed) x (total credit hours attempted in all courses)

CGPA = —————————————————————————————————–

Total credit hours attempted in all semesters

Incomplete Grade

If a student has completed all the requirements of a course except final exam or a project report/term paper, he/she may apply to the course teacher for an incomplete grade explaining the reason for missing the final exam. If the reason is acceptable, the course teacher may assign an incomplete grade, which is recorded as “I” on the final grade sheet. A student is permitted to complete an incomplete course within four weeks from the date of the commencement of new semester. If the incomplete grade is due to absence in final exam, he/she may sit for the make up final exam which is held within 4 weeks from the date of commencement of the new semester. If a student fails to sit for this exam, he/she will earn “F” grade in the course and he/she will have to retake the course. A student may cover 6 credits for maximum in a semester for incomplete grade.

Course Retake

A student earning “F” grade in a course is required to earn at least the passing grade by retaking the course in the next semester on payment of requisite fees. A student may also choose to improve the grade by retaking the course (when he/she gets C+ or below in that particular course) on payment of 100% course fees. In case of a course retake, the transcript of a student will show the grade which is higher.
